From the seller: “It is with a heavy heart that I am advertising for sale my 1938 Austin Big Seven.
The car is in beautiful original order having had the minimal amount of work to just preserve it and keep it going over the years as can be seen by the characterful patina. In 2018 the car benefited from a significant overhaul including the engine being rebuilt with new pistons, bearings, timing chain etc etc. A new clutch, brake rebuild, driveshaft coupling and new tyres were also fitted.
The car had some sill fabrication work done which was blended in to match the rest of the bodywork. Recent new 6v battery.
I have used the car to run errands and visit friends locally and it has been very reliable, it starts off the handle easily and runs beautifully.
Obviously at 83 years old the car is a very different experience with the sight’s, sound’s and smell’s compared to modern cars. Some elements of the car are a little rough and would benefit from some conservation work such as the interior in places. There is also some play in the driveshaft somewhere and the diff is a little noisy. Something that could be improved upon in the future. The cars comes with a file of history including original shell service sheet dated 1944, the original buff logbook is also still present.
The v5c states only two former keepers. Selling to fund a house restoration project Overall a fantastic piece of history that should be used and enjoyed for years to come.”
