From the seller: “For Sale on behalf of a private collector. Escort Rs GVX 489T.
This is one of the three “Monte – Tarmac Specials” built by Ford’s Motorsport Division based in Boreham London in 1979 and is the only right hand drive version ever made.The car was used by Russell Brookes on the British Championship in ’79 where he won the Manx Rally. before Billy Coleman took the car to Ireland, when it was later driven by the late Bertie Fisher as well as Vincent Bonner.
The car was bought by Malcolm Montgomery of Montgomery Motorsport in around 2003 and was in a bit of a state. He had originally intended reshelling it but was persuaded to repair the original shell. The car was rebuilt and at the time was in Bertie Fishers colours. The car was sold and went to America for a short time. The engine was refreshed in 2019 and we have the receipts and dyno printout. The car is currently presented in Billy Colemans colour scheme.

Engine 2.0 BDG on twin 48 webers. Dry sump, steel rods, forged pistons, four into one manifold, 266 bhp.
Transmission – 5 speed ZF Close ratio box, 1 piece prop, fully floating atlas with ZF LSD with 5.37:1 final drive.
Suspension – Relocated front struts, tarmac spec coil springs, compression struts, adjustable bespoke TCAS. bespoke rack, Relocated Bilstein telescopic rear dampers, 5 link rear end
Brakes – AP front Monte Carlo four pot aluminium calipers with 266mm vented discs, rear – mAp racing twin pot aluminium calipers.solid discs. mechanical and hydraulic handbrake, works bias pedal box.
Interior – Multi point RSD roll cage, Recaro seats , willans harnesses, springalex steering wheel, switch panel with extra instruments, 10500 rpm rev counter, 60 litre bag tank,
Exterior – Monte Arches, special front spoiler, 4 cidie super oscars, coleman colour scheme, sump guard
