The EV6, Kia’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV), is to be supplied with low noise Kumho tyres – the all-season CRUGEN HP71 and high-performance ECSTA PS71 in 235/55R19 size.
Both patterns exhibit significantly less resonance noise than standard products, thanks to Kumho’s patented sound absorbing technology, dubbed K-Silent.
The K-Silent system works by optimising the shape and properties of polyurethane foam materials placed within a tyre, the result of which is a marked reduction in the air vibration generated by the tyre during contact with the road surface. Kumho developed the K-Silent system back in 2014, and holds patents for it in its native Korea as well as other countries around the world. Both the HP71 and PS71 feature other properties that make them ideal for tyres intended for use on electric vehicles, such as low rolling resistance, strong anti-wear performance and excellent levels of grip.
Kia’s EV6 is based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), a next-generation base for products of the Hyundai Motor Group. It offers up to 475 kilometres from a full charge, is capable of reaching 62mph in 3.5 seconds and boasts ultra-fast charging – 80 percent in just 18 minutes. Modern and stylish inside and out, the EV6 can be regarded as an industry-leading smart mobility vehicle.
Commented Kim Insoo, Senior Vice President of OE Sales at Kumho Tire: “The low resonance noise tyres we have developed with our proprietary K-Silent system for the Kia EV6 demonstrate our ability to meet the needs for sustainable mobility. In line with the vision embodied in our slogan ‘Your Smart Mobility Partner’, we will continue to grow with our customers by developing advanced technologies and products in response to the fast transition to future-oriented vehicles.”
