From the seller: “We are very pleased to offer a fantastic and super rare 1970 Ford Escort MK1 Canterbury Siesta campervan. This wonderful and versatile camper is presented in ready to use, show and camp condition, finished in its original colour of C5 blue with all of its original panels and it remains completely un-welded.
Registered new in April 1970 by Wilsons Motor Caravan centre of Brixton with just two previous owners since then. It has only covered 52k in 51 years. The history file retains the original hand written order form and a final invoice totalling £994. The first owner cared for it until 1989 and the second was also a family member. As well as a Magazine feature it is accompanied with its original Ford service book, sales brochures and various Canterbury user guides. The layout and design of this Camper are beautifully thought out and the conversion was carried out to a very high standard which is testament to its condition and use ability some 50 years on.
On the road its an absolute pleasure to drive. The original 1298 OHV engine fires instantly and is super smooth and quiet. The gearbox, with synchromesh on all four gears is smooth and precise. To summarise it drives like a low mileage well cared for example should.”
