The new Skoda Enyaq iV is the Parkers Car of the Year for 2022, after a convincing win in the Best Large Electric Car category.
The award is the latest in a string of major industry accolades for the new electric model, and it overwhelmingly won this one with a unanimous decision for it among the judging panel.
For Skoda’s first serious effort at an electric car, the Enyaq iV is simply brilliant. Starting with the interior, which is enormous, it’s perfectly sized for families and packed with all the features modern life demands. The most impressive aspect inside, though, is the quality of its trim and materials, which feel genuinely luxurious and welcoming – and a massive step forward for Skoda.
On the road, the Enyaq iV makes a very convincing case for itself, too, with a comfortable ride, decent performance, and in ‘80’ form, a claimed battery range of 336 miles – call it 275+ in the real world – enough for it to be usable for most families to go electric without making compromises.
The experts at Parkers, the UK’s biggest new car buying and advice website, were impressed, concluding: ‘More than being a very good electric vehicle – it’s an excellent car, regardless of how it’s powered.’
Keith Adams, Editor of Parkers, added: ‘The Skoda Enyaq iV is a gamechanger. Here’s an electric car that offers few of the traditional drawbacks of a plug-in car and all the advantages, wrapped in a stylish package with a luxurious interior and ample room for five.
‘From the entry-level 60 model that squeaks in under the £35,000 cut-off for the government Plug-in Grant, to the long-range 80, the choice is vast. And that’s before you consider all the personalisation options. The exceptional comfort and near-silent cruising are the icing on the cake of this brilliant family car.’
Just as it did in 2021, Ford takes the spoils in the Van of The Year and Best Pickup awards, with CJ Hubbard, Van and Pickups editor saying of the Transit Custom: ‘It is a pleasure to drive – and stylish with it,’ CJ adds, ‘once again, this multi-talented van was the clear choice for the 2022 Parkers Van of the Year Award.’ Meanwhile, the Ranger pickup stays ahead of its rivals. ‘With its outstanding blend of refinement and style, the Ranger is the pickup that beats some tough and worthy competition, whether you need a working truck or a lifestyle accessory,’ CJ says.
Other big winners at the Parkers New Car Awards 2022 include Toyota, which takes home three awards. It wins Best Car for Thrill-Seekers award for the brilliant GR Yaris, the Best Small Van for the Proace City and the Best Electric Van for the Proace Electric – the latter two nosing ahead of their Stellantis cousins on the back of Toyota’s impressive new 10-year Relax warranty.
Other notable repeat winners from last year include BMW, which wins the Best Company Car award for the excellent 330e plug-in hybrid again, as does the Land Rover Defender for the Best Off-Roader, Renault with the Clio in the Best First Car category and last year’s Car of The Year, the Ford Puma, beating all its rivals to take the Best Small Family Car for the second year in a row.
The excellent Volkswagen ID.3 takes the spoils in the brand new Best Medium Electric Car category, reflecting the massive rise in the number of EVs Parkers is now testing.
Keith Adams adds: ‘The Parkers New Car Awards winners are an excellent group of cars, vans and pickups. They all set a high standard all round in a competitive market where the buyer really is spoiled for choice. We’re as obsessive as ever over recommending the best vehicles for the United Kingdom’s car-buying public – and choosing this year’s winners has been a very thorough and enjoyable process.’
