HEATED BIDDING AT CCA’S BIGGEST EVER ONE-DAY SALE

115 ‘everyman’ classics sold with a total sales value of £1.53 million

Classic Car Auctions (CCA) held its biggest ever one-day sale on Saturday 2^nd June, where 115 quality ‘everyman’ classics were successfully sold resulting in a 65 per cent sales rate and total sales exceeding £1.53 million.

Proving that strong demand continues for quality classics at the right prices, the hundreds of bidders that filled the auction hall at the Warwickshire Event Centre were joined by online bidders located around the world, including Australia, Indonesia and the USA.

1983 Ford Escort RS1600i

Among the most sought-after classics of the day, a one owner from new, 1983 Ford Escort RS1600i finished in Diamond White with an unmarked cloth interior was the subject of a hard fought bidding war. Easily passing its pre-sale estimate, the fast Ford sold for £46,200 including premium, more than £16,000 above its lower guide price.

Another 80’s icon in exceptional condition was as 1988 Audi Quattro Turbo 10V. Presented in Pearl Effect White Metallic and coming from 19 year ownership, it was sold to a bidder in the room for £38,500, also exceeding its estimate, by £12,500.

A late production 1989 Mercedes-Benz 500SL and a smartly presented 1992 Mercedes 500 E Lorinser also proved popular, both exceeded their pre-sale estimates, selling for £18,480 and £17,380 respectively.

1954 Citroen 2CV

More traditional classics also attracted high levels of bidders. A special restoration project 1954 Citroen 2CV, rebuilt by the team at Practical Classic magazine and Citroen specialists to exacting standards. The car was sold to a bidder in Australia at a winning bid of £10,340.

Offering timeless elegance, an original UK, right-hand drive 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL ‘Pagoda’ with a rare five-speed manual gearbox sold to a phone bidder for £50,050, and a rare, aluminium-bodied 1960 Austin Healey 3000 BT7 sold to an online bidder £49,500.

“What a sale this has been!” comments Gary Dunne, sales manager, CCA. “We’ve worked incredibly hard to source the best ‘everyman’ classics around the country for our biggest ever one-day sale, which is a significant landmark for us. I’m absolutely delighted with the result, the number of customers at the sale, and of course the interest from around the world.”

Bargain Buy

Possibly one of the best bargains of the sale was an original UK, right-hand drive 1991 Ferrari Mondial T 3.4, which was sold to a bidder in the room for £32,120. Among the more unusual lots, a 1957 DKW Auto Union Schnellaster F89L Panel Van, the only example in the UK, found a new home when bought for £11,550.
