The original conversion of this series one was done when the values were in the hundreds of pounds, not the tens of thousands of today.
The changes to this vehicle are extensive, well engineered and were all done in the day, to serve its intended purpose as a club trials Land Rover.
For the recent MOT my Land Rover has just had extensive chassis and bulkhead repairs undertaken by Martin (ex proprietor) of Broad Lane Land Rovers.
The Specification :
Power Steering ( using a Rover P5 steering box).
Series II front axle with Santanna disc brake conversion and leather gaitors – stops on a pin and no brake fade when wet!
QT front diff guard.
Rear Series One axle with floating half shaft conversion (stronger).
Goodridge brake hoses all round.
3528cc Rover V8 on recent SU carbs and manifold (auto choke).
Engine oil and filter recently serviced at the MOT date.
Remote brake servo fitted in under passenger seat.
Series IIA gear box (best for strength)
Gear box oil recently changed at the MOT date.
Series IIA pedal box.
The gear box cross member can be unbolted to remove the gearbox from underneath (saving the need to remove the floors).
Range Rover diff in each axle giving ideal ratios for the V8 and no need for an overdrive
5 X LWB 5.5 X 16 newly powder coated steel rims fitted with recent 235 X 70 X 16 Bridgestone AT.
Electronic ignition with max spark coil.
10 gallon remote rear mounted fuel tank and cover (a requirement for ARC trials). Could be put back under the drivers seat.
Remote rear mounted battery (new) and cover (an ARC requirement for trials). Could be moved.
Moving the above two items would allow full use of the rear load area.
Polybushed parabolic SII front springs.
Rear springs S1.
Fitted with a Kenlowe electric (manually switched) cooling fan, the belt driven fan was removed to stop it spinning water over the engine electrics, when deep water wading.
Tow ball / pin and drop hitch with electrics.
Battery cut out switch (an ARC requirement).
Front towing hooks.
Recent full series one tilt and hood sticks Exmoor Trim.
Recent series one front seats Exmoor Trim.
A very large history file comes with the vehicle.
The front grill and both wings (outer and inner) detach as one for very impressive access to the engine and ancillaries.”
